Curaçao carved a slice of history on Sunday at the 2026 World Cup, scoring their first ever goal to briefly pull level with Germany. L'Équipe highlighted the moment as a landmark for the debutants.

Germany had struck first through Felix Nmecha, leaving Curaçao quickly trailing and largely outplayed.

The response came in the 21st minute when Zurich midfielder Livano Comenencia pounced after Jürgen Locadia's effort was blocked.

Comenencia hit a left-footed strike that clipped Joshua Kimmich, deceived Manuel Neuer and nestled inside the keeper's right-hand side netting.

It was Curaçao's maiden World Cup goal in their first finals, with Uzbekistan, Jordan and Cape Verde also debuting at the tournament.
