West Ham United appear to be moving closer to agreeing a loan deal with Marseille for Jean-Clair Todibo, with the ‘two clubs currently discussing the split’ of his wages.

Todibo has been clear about his desire to leave the London Stadium this summer and his agents have been hard at work on options.

There has been interest in the Frenchman from Italy, where both Atalanta and Juventus are firm admirers of his talents.

A return to France with Marseille though currently looks like the most likely option for the Hammers centre-back.

Talks are taking place about a loan deal for Todibo, hot on the heels of the defender giving his green light to the Stade Velodrome switch.

The discussions now appear to have progressed and, according to French journalist Santi Aouna, ‘the two clubs are currently discussing the split of the defender’s salary’.

Marseille missed out on qualifying for the Champions League this season and that has had financial implications at the Stade Velodrome.

Signing Todibo on a permanent deal looks to be off the table for the Ligue 1 side, who will also not be able to cover all his salary.

It is unclear what level of split might be being discussed, but Todibo will hope that an agreement can be reached soon.

For his part, the defender is prepared to sacrifice some of his salary in order to help the move happen.

Marseille are currently trying to offload players and have slapped a €50m price tag on the head of Brazilian attacker Igor Paixao.

They are expecting an approach from Saudi Arabia for him, which could lead to a big money departure.

Marseille agreed a fee to sell midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg to Newcastle United, but he refused to move and as a result had the captaincy stripped from him.

With such financial concerns at Marseille, it remains to be seen how quickly they will be in a position to complete the signing of Todibo.
