Dani Budesca ended an 833-day wait for a goal on Sunday, smashing in to put his side 3-0 up against Marbella at the Mini Estadi and celebrating with visible relief.
As reported by El Periódico Mediterráneo, the Villarreal academy right-back, born in Murcia on 27 May 2006, marked the moment with a passionate reaction.
He struck in the 34th minute with a fierce effort that gave the keeper no chance. He sprinted to his team-mates, embraced them, raised a clenched fist and, with both hands, pointed to his number two.
Budesca is not a specialist scorer, but his driving runs from right-back take him into dangerous areas. He is nearing a decade in yellow.
Before football he competed in athletics, racing 50, 60, 500, 1,000 and 2,000 metres, and taking part in long jump and high jump. In 2011 he turned to football, joined Villarreal and has matured into a physically impressive, diligent and self-demanding defender.
