Manchester United are considering an approach for Karl Darlow, according to The Athletic, leaving Leeds United and Daniel Farke facing a potential fight to keep their first-choice goalkeeper.

Darlow is out of contract this summer and his homegrown status is attractive. United are thought to want depth in goal, with current back-up to Senne Lammens, Altay Bayindir, expected to depart.

The 35-year-old made 22 Premier League appearances for Leeds last season after stepping in for Lucas Perri, steadying the side with a series of strong displays. He earned a save of the season nomination and has established himself as Wales No 1 under Craig Bellamy.

Asked about his goalkeeper pool in late April, with Illan Meslier and Alex Cairns also nearing the end of their deals, Farke declined to divulge talks. He underlined his admiration for Darlow and hinted supporters could infer his stance.

Leeds tied down Darlow’s international team-mate and captain Ethan Ampadu last week, the midfielder signing a new four-year contract.
