Feyenoord’s Ayase Ueda appears more attainable. The 27-year-old has 40 goals across three seasons and was last term’s Eredivisie top scorer with 25. He could cost about £15m, with Ipswich and Brighton tracking him.

Exits may be needed to balance the attack. Joe Gelhardt, Joel Piroe, Mateo Joseph and Largie Ramazani could all depart if suitable offers arrive, with Gelhardt most likely given one year left and a long loan at Hull City.
