Daniel James says he would love to finish his career at Leeds United, while acknowledging things can change quickly and that holding down a place will come down to his performances.
He signed a new four-year deal last summer after starring in Daniel Farke’s 100-point Championship title win, producing 12 goals and nine assists in 36 games, following 20 direct contributions in 2023/24.
The first eight months of that contract have been bruising, with injuries restricting him to four Premier League starts and no goals or assists. He has also struggled for minutes in a side that has moved away from out-and-out wingers.
Asked if he could envisage seeing his career out at Elland Road, James said: “Yeah, definitely. I think Stu [Dallas] obviously spent a very long time here, absolutely loved it. It's something that I would absolutely love to do as well, I think.”
The remarks were made on the Official Leeds United podcast. “So much [can change]. Year to year, things change as I've had in my career, but ultimately, I feel great. I've settled, I've really settled with the family. It definitely feels like home, but it's down to me to go and perform on the pitch.”
His only start this calendar year came in March’s 3-0 FA Cup fifth-round win against Norwich City. An adductor strain sidelined the 28-year-old for all of April, with two league cameos either side totalling nine minutes, though he remains a valued squad figure and a Wales team-mate of Ethan Ampadu, Joe Rodon and Karl Darlow.
