Daniel Osvaldo remains in intensive care at a hospital in Llavallol, Argentina, after emergency surgery for a severe pleural effusion in his right lung.

Clarín reports that his condition is guarded.

His sister found him in a fragile state at his home in Banfield and took him to hospital.

Osvaldo retired in July 2020 after spells with Roma, Juventus, Inter and Espanyol, then pursued music and recently returned to sport as a television commentator.

In recent years he has spoken candidly about addiction, and two years ago he posted a video revealing he had depression and was receiving psychiatric treatment.
