Danilo started in Flamengo’s win over Corinthians and is close to extending his contract until the end of next year. The centre-back expects a resolution within days.
According to Globo.com, talks have progressed and the deal should be signed this week. He praised the team’s organisation after the match at the Maracanã.
Flamengo’s proposal for an extra year has been on the table since before the World Cup. The defender had considered retiring in December, but after the tournament with Brazil he opened negotiations and signalled a desire to stay.
It is already set that 2027 will be his final year as a professional. His current contract runs out at the end of this year. He joined last season and scored the title-clinching goal in the 2025 Libertadores against Palmeiras.
The renewal also reflects his leadership off the pitch, and president Bap has floated the idea of him taking a role after retirement. Danilo said the squad’s experienced core shares day-to-day responsibility alongside Jardim’s staff, a synergy he believes helps sustain winning.
He returned to the line-up after four matches on the bench and has started several league fixtures. Flamengo moved to 57 points and ended the round top, one ahead of Palmeiras, who had led on Saturday after beating São Paulo. Next up are Independiente del Valle in the Libertadores quarter-final second leg on Thursday at 21:30 Brasília time, then Bragantino on the 20th at 18:30, both at the Maracanã.
