Danilo says he is close to extending his Flamengo contract, adding the deal should be signed this week. According to Coluna Do Fla, the centre-back spoke after the 2-1 win over Corinthians on Sunday and said only minor details remain.
His current agreement runs until the end of 2026, and the new terms should keep him at the club through December 2027, mirroring Alex Sandro’s arrangement.
In August he said he was considering retiring in 2027, aiming to finish his career after one final season with the Rio side he supports.
He reflected that 2026 left little time to think, citing the World Cup and the physical demands at 35. He hopes 2027 will be their last year together, and believes both parties want to continue. He sees no obstacles and would love to sign off with a major trophy.
Danilo joined Flamengo in January 2025 on a free after terminating his Juventus contract. He has made 55 appearances, scoring five goals and supplying two assists.
The defender struck the title-winning goal in the 2025 Libertadores final and also sparked a comeback against Chelsea in the Club World Cup group stage, a 3-1 win. Flamengo next face Independiente del Valle at the Maracanã on Thursday 17 at 21:30 Brasília time in the Libertadores quarter-final second leg.
