Leeds United are set to welcome 20 former players back to Elland Road next season, and reactions will vary.

Karl Darlow has joined Manchester United after his Leeds deal expired, becoming the first player in 22 years to move from Elland Road to Old Trafford. According to yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk, he was first choice last season but could not be guaranteed the same status, and United’s visit is sure to draw a special reception.

Other familiar faces will arrive with Bournemouth, Arsenal and newly promoted Hull City.

Jaidon Anthony, Brentford, August 30. After a 2023/24 Leeds loan, he produced eight goals and two assists in last season’s Premier League for Burnley, then joined Brentford for around £20m.

Eddie Nketiah, Crystal Palace, September 19. His 2019/20 loan was cut short due to limited minutes, and he left Arsenal for Palace in a £30m move in summer 2024, still short of regular starts.

Karl Darlow, Manchester United, October 17. The Welsh goalkeeper returns with Manchester United.

Djed Spence, Tottenham Hotspur, November 7. His 2023/24 loan ended early under Daniel Farke, since when he has played regularly for Spurs and earned an England World Cup call-up.

Archie Gray, Tottenham Hotspur, November 7. The academy graduate left for £40m in 2024, senior minutes have been limited and his role could depend on a busy summer.

Matt Grimes, Coventry City, November 28. The midfielder made seven Championship appearances on loan in 2016/17 and captained Coventry to promotion last season.
