David Davis is spearheading Kidderminster Harriers’ promotion tilt and reflecting on the Wolves grounding that set up a career he hopes is not finished yet.

As reported by ExpressAndStar.com, the 35-year-old has been used higher up by Adam Murray and says he would love to carry on for at least a couple more years. He has eight goals, the best return of his career.

Spotted by Tony Lacey at 15, he joined Wolves and toughened up on loans at Walsall, Shrewsbury, Darlington and Inverness under Terry Butcher, with Mick McCarthy noting how much he matured.

He debuted in the 2011/12 Carling Cup, then was recalled from Chesterfield after McCarthy’s exit and Karl Henry’s injury. A 2-0 defeat to Blackburn brought his Premier League bow and a man-of-the-match display, followed by tests against Manchester United, Arsenal and Manchester City.

Turbulent years brought back-to-back relegations then the League One title. Davis believes injuries to key team-mates contributed and says dropping a division may have acted as a reset for the club.

He left in 2014 after falling out with Kenny Jackett, joined Birmingham City, made almost 200 appearances, and scored in a 2-1 win at Molineux which he celebrated as simple rivalry.

He signed for Kidderminster in summer 2024, now captains the side and heads into Saturday’s play-offs against Macclesfield or Chester, with victory leaving Harriers one game from a National League return.

Away from football he works with Trulife Financial, hopes to play longer and one day become a firefighter.
