David Raya’s appearance against Nottingham Forest took him to an impressive personal landmark in Arsenal colours. The Spaniard kept a clean sheet in what was a really dominant win over the visitors earlier today. Goals from Martin Zubimendi and Viktor Gyökeres ensured the Gunners won by a three-goal margin, beating the visitors 3-0. Probably the most significant moments of the game were the two goals scored by Zubimendi. The Spaniard scored two very distinct yet brilliant goals in surprising fashion, netting via a volley and a header. Another top performer was Noni Madueke, while Arsenal put in a really good collective display against a rather toothless Forest side.
David Raya kept his third clean sheet of the campaign and was very tidy with the ball throughout the encounter. It is perhaps fitting that he capped off a landmark number of games for the Gunners with the shut-out. The 29-year-old made his 100th Arsenal appearance in the victory, two years on after initially joining the club on loan. During those appearances, Raya has kept 42 clean sheets in all competitions, a very impressive tally considering the percentages. It works out to about a shut-out in every 2.3 games, a remarkable figure indeed.

The Spaniard was initially brought in on loan in the summer of 2023 and after ousting fan favourite Aaron Ramsdale, his move was made permanent the following summer. When asked about his clean sheet record ahead of the Forest win, Arteta had this to say in his pre-Forest Presser: “Pretty good? It’s the best in the history of the football club. It’s unbelievable! Very good to understand the game and especially when a few months or years go by. It’s really good to look back as well and reflect on that. It is not I, it is we. We did it, and with his help, I think, he has a tremendous impact on the team.”
Raya was an elite Premier League goalkeeper before his arrival, but he has climbed greater heights following his move to Arsenal. It is a collective effort and I’m sure he would not have managed that tally without a good defence, but you have to give him credit nonetheless.
Is David Raya now a top three goalkeeper in the world? Have your say in the comments.
