Dayana Rodríguez features for Venezuela in friendly during FIFA break

During the break for the FIFA Women’s International Match Calendar, Corinthians midfielder Dayana Rodríguez took the field for the Venezuelan National Team in a friendly played last Saturday (01). The team was defeated by Cruz Azul of Mexico, 2-1, in a match held at La Noria, the training center used by the youth and women’s teams of the Mexican club.

The Corinthians midfielder started the match among the starting eleven under coach Ángel Huald and played the entire first half, being substituted at halftime.

Cruz Azul opened the scoring just five minutes into the game. After a play down the left, Chavarín finished with a cross shot inside the box to put the Mexican team ahead. Venezuela responded shortly after and equalized in the 13th minute, when Francelis Gaterol scored with a chip. In stoppage time of the second half, Uchenna Kanu converted a penalty and secured the victory for the home team.

The Venezuelan National Team returns to the field next Wednesday (04), when they face Brazil in a friendly scheduled for the city of Toluca, also in Mexico. The team’s last match during this FIFA window will take place on Saturday (07), against América-MEX.

In addition to Dayana Rodríguez, other Corinthians players were also called up by their national teams during this period. Forward Gisela Robledo is with Colombia, which faces Canada this Sunday (02) at 4pm (Brasília time) in the SheBelieves Cup. Meanwhile, Belén Aquino is part of the Uruguayan National Team, which will play friendlies against Ecuador on March 4 and 7.

Meanwhile, the Brabas squad, now led by coach Emily Lima, continues preparations in the São Paulo capital for the rest of the season. Corinthians’ next match will be the derby against Palmeiras, on March 13 at 9:30pm (Brasília time), at Arena Barueri, for the third round of the Brazilian Women’s Championship.
