Bitter news for FC Bayern? A planned multi-million euro deal could be in jeopardy – and the trigger lies in London. The dismissal of Tottenham coach Thomas Frank has a direct impact on the future of João Palhinha

The Portuguese moved from Munich to Spurs on loan last summer, with a purchase option of around €30 million anchored in his contract. From Bayern’s perspective, there seemed to be many indications that Tottenham would exercise this option. However, doubts are now growing

As the TEAMtalk portal reports, Thomas Frank played a central role in Palhinha’s signing. The 52-year-old is said to have campaigned heavily for the midfielder internally and clearly advocated a permanent deal. With his dismissal, Palhinha is now without his most important advocate

According to information from England, the Tottenham management are currently unwilling to make a final decision. On the one hand, Frank’s successor has not yet been appointed and, on the other, they want to reassess the overall sporting situation. Spurs slipped to 16th place in the Premier League after the recent 2-1 defeat against Newcastle and are suddenly fighting for stability instead of international places

Back in January, talkSPORT reported that there were internal discussions about Palhinha’s added sporting value – even though Frank was still in office at the time. Without his backing, a permanent signing now seems much less likely

For FC Bayern, this means a potential loss of income. The planned €30 million from the purchase option could be lost if Tottenham pull out. In this case, Palhinha would return to Säbener Straße in the summer, to a club that no longer has plans for him.
