According to Sport, Greenwood was under genuine consideration at the Camp Nou before Barcelona committed to signing Anthony Gordon and Karim Adeyemi. The paper described him as a versatile attacker capable of operating across the front line, with an exceptional left foot and consistent influence on matches – qualities that made him an attractive low-cost option for Deco’s recruitment team.

Ultimately, the interest never translated into a concrete approach. The primary source states that Barca’s admiration did not progress beyond an initial stage, with the deal shelved as the club also turned its attention to developing younger attacking talent, specifically Jesse Bisiwu.

Greenwood’s route from Old Trafford to Istanbul

Greenwood’s career at United ended abruptly following criminal allegations, after which the club suspended him before eventually sending him out on loan to Getafe for the 2023–24 season. He was then sold permanently to Olympique de Marseille in 2024, where he scored 48 goals over two seasons and went on to have fine form.
