Dejan Kulusevski is closing in on a return after 16 months out with a knee injury, and Graham Potter wants him in Sweden's Nations League squad if Tottenham's medics agree.
The 26-year-old has not played since May 2025. He had right patella surgery after 2024-25, then a second operation in March, and missed all of Spurs' last season.
He rejoined first-team training in early September. Roberto De Zerbi is yet to consider him for matchday duty, while Potter is encouraged by his progress and seeks swift clearance during the international window.
"He's very close. I'm so impressed with him, how he's handled his injury. Of course, we have to be careful with him. I hope he comes with us, but we have to talk to Dejan and Tottenham first," he told SVT.
"The importance of getting Dejan Kulusevski into the national team cannot be emphasised enough. He is incredibly important to the team. We love him, his character and qualities. He is a world-class player and it helps enormously to have him around."
Sweden play four Nations League games from September 21 to October 6, hosting Romania then Poland before trips to Bosnia and Herzegovina and Romania. Potter hopes Kulusevski could feature if fit. Back in north London, De Zerbi will track his readiness.
