Having delivered a great performance to help AS Monaco secure victory against Stade Rennais and achieve a third consecutive clean sheet, the Monegasque captain was named MVP on the AS Monaco App.
He was once again a defensive monster. Starting in central defence for the second time in a row after the draw with Juventus (0-0), which secured qualification for the Champions League playoffs, Denis Zakaria was one of the key players in the Ligue 1 victory over Rennes (4-0). He was voted MVP of Matchday 20 on the AS Monaco App.
And for good reason, the captain of the Red and Whites was the symbol of the team’s solidity in this important match for the race for European places. Making five clearances, one tackle, one interception, and two ball recoveries, the Monaco number 6 also demonstrated accuracy in his distribution with a pass success rate of nearly 98%.
We'll see if he has to return to midfield, but Zak put in another very good performance tonight. He's been an exemplary captain these past few weeks, especially as he faces an unfamiliar situation as captain.
He was impactful offensively as he made a few forward runs, such as when he opened up and fired off a curling shot… against Brice Samba’s left post (16’)! An overall performance that deserved to be credited with a goal, but nevertheless saw the club from the Principality secure their first victory in 2026, coupled with a third consecutive clean sheet.
He was outstanding in this match once again, with forward and penetrating runs, so that's very positive. We'll see how things go depending on the players' returns and the opponent we face. In any case, we have a new option for this three-man defence.
Named in the Team of the Week for Matchday 20 Denis won the MVP award in the key match against Rennes with 75% of the votes, ahead of young teammate Mamadou Coulibaly (10%), who scored the third goal of the game. Well done, captain! 👏
