Denzel Dumfries opens up on Real Madrid move afer presentation: ‘This is a dream and a great responsibility’ | OneFootball

After Jose Mourinho, Bernardo Silva, and Ibrahima Konate, today Real Madrid held the official presentation for summer signing Denzel Dumfries.

The 30-year-old right-back has been presented as a new Real Madrid player 47 days after the official announcement confirming his signing.

And the Dutchman took part in an institutional ceremony alongside Florentino Perez.

Accompanied by his family as well as the club’s honorary president, Pirri, the Netherlands international watched a video featuring his best moments, received a replica of the Santiago Bernabeu from the president and signed his contract.

With the signing, the Rotterdam-born player is tied to the club until 2030. Speaking to Real Madrid TV after the ceremony, Dumfries expressed his elation at the move, saying:

“For anyone, playing for Real Madrid is a dream. Being here is a great responsibility, of course, because we have important objectives. I’m very proud and happy. Ready to get started.”

A guarantee at right-back

Dumfries arrives at Real Madrid from Inter Milan, with the Spanish capital club activating his €20 million release clause to secure his signing.

During his five seasons with the Nerazzurri, the veteran defender established himself as one of the world’s best players in his position.

During his time at Inter Milan, he made 207 appearances, contributing 27 goals and 28 assists. His standout moment in Italy came in the 2024-25 Champions League semi-final against Barcelona, when he produced a spectacular performance with two goals and three assists.

After joining training on July 28, Dumfries made his debut in the first friendly of pre-season against Fiorentina, which ended 2-2.

Following Dani Carvajal’s departure, the club strengthened the position with an experienced player who has the stature to take ownership of the right flank.

With Trent Alexander-Arnold providing competition, Real Madrid now have two complementary players in the position, and Mourinho has tried them together twice in pre-season.

After his presentation, Dumfries will turn his focus on making his competitive debut in the Real Madrid shirt tomorrow at the RCDE Stadium against Espanyol.
