Vasco’s pursuit of Nelson Deossa has stretched beyond a month, with talks over the Colombian midfielder still unresolved.

According to Globo.com, left-back Paulinho joined via a pre-contract signed in February, and there have been no other arrivals.

Vasco formalised interest in the third week of June, around the 16th, as Marcos Lamacchia’s talks to buy the club’s SAF gathered pace.

On the 23rd, Deossa gave initial approval to the salary terms and project. Vasco cited Andrés Gómez’s World Cup appearance and renewed Colombia attention to help persuade him, while Deossa missed the tournament after an inconsistent season at Betis.

River Plate showed interest but did not meet Betis’s terms. The proposal is a loan with a 10 million euros obligation to buy, potentially rising to 12 million with bonuses.

Progress has been slowed by Pedrinho’s court injunction and Betis travelling to Germany for pre-season, leaving roughly 35 days of waiting with the process seemingly stuck.

Vasco visit Independiente Medellín in Colombia on Wednesday in the first leg of the Copa Sudamericana second phase, and head coach Pedro Emanuel will test changes to his starting side.

The hierarchy want an aerially dominant centre-back, a quick winger and a centre-forward, while also monitoring defensive midfield options. Spending remains uncertain, with larger outlay possibly allowed soon if the SAF deal with Lamacchia advances.
