With time running out, what Manchester United need most urgently on deadline day is a new left-back.

INEOS are instead focusing on adding a fourth midfielder in the form of Louis Page from Leicester City.

A move was complicated due to the Foxes being in action tonight, but as per Fosse Hub on X, the 18-year-old is not a part of the League One side’s matchday squad.

“Louis Page not in Leicester City squad from what I’ve heard, transfer to Man United looks imminent.”

Leicester’s demands are significant, and with Arsenal also interested, the Red Devils have bumped up their offer significantly.

The 20-time English league champions are prepared to pay more than what noisy neighbours Manchester City had paid when they signed Jeremy Monga earlier this summer.

City had paid an initial £10 million, with another £2.5 million in performance-related add-ons. This means United are set to pay more than £12.5 million overall.

United’s offer also includes a loan back to the King Power Stadium and a hefty sell-on clause.

“Manchester United have made final push to sign Leicester midfielder Louis Page before deadline.

“Their offer is in excess of what Leicester received from Manchester City Jeremy Monga, including a free loan back and big sell-on,” Pete O’Rourke wrote on X (formerly Twitter)

Hopefully, this means a deal can be wrapped up before the window slams shut. The money involved could scupper hopes of any additions at left-back.
