Mouctar Diakhaby will be out for one month after he came off early against Barcelona at Mestalla. The club said in a statement that he has injured the long adductor in his left leg.

Valencia did not give a recovery timescale, adding that the centre-back will follow a medical, physiotherapy and reconditioning plan at the training ground until he is clinically ready to rejoin the squad.

This is Diakhaby’s third muscle injury in less than a year. Last season he missed 32 league matches and in January the club deregistered his shirt number to register Unai Núñez.

Since arriving in summer 2018, he has suffered 12 injuries. One was so serious it nearly forced him to quit football.

Valencia have three fixtures before the international break, at Sevilla on Friday, at Alavés on Tuesday, then home to Real Sociedad the following Sunday. Carlos Corberán has only Tárrega and Arnau available at centre-back, with De Haas still recovering and Copete not expected back until October.
