Didier Deschamps will appeal after his defamation complaint against Daniel Riolo was dismissed in Paris on Friday.

His lawyer, Isabelle Wekstein, said he had taken note of the judgment delivered by the Tribunal de Grande Instance de Paris and had decided to appeal.

The court did not uphold the defamation claim for technical reasons.

However, the judges found the remarks, framed as anathemas and in hurtful terms, revealed an intention to cast discredit on Deschamps.

They also acknowledged he was the victim of a "procès d'intention".
