Matheus Pereira could earn more minutes under Fernando Diniz in the second half of 2026, with the 28-year-old viewed internally as cover for the starting line-up if André or Breno Bidon leave when the window opens on 20 July. According to Globo.com, he is being considered for a more prominent role.
The midfielder has impressed the staff with his progress during the mid-season work at CT Joaquim Grava.
Diniz sees him contributing with tactical intelligence, sharp play in tight spaces, quality passing and lively movement.
In recent sessions he has been used higher in midfield, breaking into the box and operating as a late runner. He found the net that way in Sunday’s friendly, scoring Corinthians’ only goal in a 1-1 draw with Cascavel after pouncing on a loose ball at the edge of the area.
His rise aligns with a hallmark of Diniz’s previous work, prioritising the development of players already in the squad before turning to the market.
On loan from Fortaleza until the end of the season, Matheus Pereira had a modest first half, featuring in 19 games without a direct goal involvement.
Corinthians are next in action on 23 at 19:30 Brasília time against Remo at Neo Química Arena in the Campeonato Brasileiro.
