Corinthians staged the fifth public hearing on its Statute reform at Parque São Jorge on Wednesday night, focusing on election systems for the Deliberative Council and executive. The session was mostly calm but ended in disagreement.
According to Meu Timao, the reform commission will compile feedback after 11 hearings before a new draft goes to the Council and then a General Assembly vote. A live broadcast was vetoed by president Osmar Stabile, who said it would only proceed if open to all media.
Debate centred on voting rules, models, counting, candidacy registration and challenges, plus in-person, electronic and online ballots. Two council formats are proposed, a proportional open-list by slates with a minimum individual threshold, and an individual majoritarian system without slates for 200 seats. Supporters and critics weighed simplicity against entrenched power and representativeness.
Other ideas include extending terms from three to four years, backed by Liberdade Corinthiana, Movimento Corinthians Grande and Preto no Branco. The waiting period to vote or stand could drop from five to four years, and a 20% quota for women is included. Anti-nepotism and re-election limits, mandatory electronic urns and online voting with facial biometrics are also on the table.
Around 50 people attended, with president Osmar Stabile absent. Chair Romeu Tuma Júnior criticised the process that approved the Neo Química Arena refinancing with Caixa, urged an end to votes by acclamation and stronger Cori oversight, then closed the meeting after a dispute with councillor Peterson Ruan.
