Corinthians staged the fifth statute reform hearing on Wednesday night at Parque São Jorge, focused on election rules. It stayed largely calm until a brief exchange between Romeu Tuma Júnior and councillor Peterson Ruan at the close.
According to Meu Timao, the session examined how the club elects its Deliberative Council and executive board, plus ballot methods. After 11 hearings, a revised draft will go to the Council, then a General Assembly.
Two Council systems are proposed. One is proportional by slates, open list, with minimum individual votes. The other is an individual majoritarian model without slates, electing the 200 top candidates, dividing those favouring simplicity and those pushing broader representation.
Other ideas include limits on re-election, anti-nepotism rules, mandatory electronic ballots and secure online voting by facial biometrics. A four-year term, up from three, was backed by Liberdade Corinthiana, Movimento Corinthians Grande and Preto no Branco. The draft also cuts eligibility from five to four years and adds a 20% women’s quota.
About 50 people attended and president Osmar Stabile was again absent. A live stream was vetoed by the board led by Stabile, who said it would only proceed if open to all media, not only the club channel. Remaining hearings are scheduled at the club theatre from 18:00 with advance email registration, and a November vote on the draft was suspended.
