FC Bayern have loaned Sacha Boey to Galatasaray until the end of the season, with the Frenchman set to gain match practice at the highest level in Istanbul
FC Bayern have made their next personnel move and loaned Sacha Boey to Galatasaray Istanbul until the end of the current season. The Turkish league leaders and Champions League participants officially confirmed the deal on Thursday, as did Munich. The 25-year-old Frenchman is thus returning to the club from which he only moved to the Isar in January 2024. The loan does not change anything in his long-term contract with the German record champions – Boey is still tied to FC Bayern until 30 June 2028
The solution is understandable for both sides: Boey will have the opportunity to gain regular match practice at a high level in a familiar environment, while Bayern are deliberately giving the right-back time and space to make a fresh start after a long and injury-ridden phase. Chief Sports Officer Max Eberl emphasized precisely this aspect when announcing the transfer. Boey knows Galatasaray very well from his time before moving to Munich and will therefore not need a long acclimatization phase. The upcoming Champions League play-offs against Juventus Turin and the title fight in the Süper Lig in particular would offer the Frenchman the chance to show himself on the international stage and gain valuable minutes of action
Boey’s time at FC Bayern has been much more varied than either side had hoped. The Frenchman arrived in Munich in the winter of 2024 as a desired solution for the right side of defence, but has been repeatedly set back by injuries. Despite these setbacks, his record is certainly respectable. In 38 competitive matches for Bayern to date, Boey has contributed one goal and five assists and was part of the team that won the German championship and the German Super Cup last summer. Nevertheless, he has not managed to establish himself as an undisputed regular on a permanent basis
FC Bayern’s loan to Istanbul is now linked to several objectives. On the one hand, Boey should find a stable rhythm again through constant match practice. On the other hand, Munich are keeping all options open for the future. Galatasaray plays a key role both nationally and internationally and offers the right-back a sporting environment that suits his profile. For Bayern, it is also a strategic decision in the context of squad planning, as they want to make adjustments on the right side of defence in the medium term anyway
For Boey himself, the return to Galatasaray is more than just a stopover. In Istanbul, he already enjoyed an excellent reputation before his move to Munich and developed into a top performer. It is precisely this time that he should now build on. If he succeeds in doing so, everyone involved could benefit at the end of the season – the player through new self-confidence, Galatasaray through sporting stability and FC Bayern through a strengthened professional with clearer prospects
The loan is therefore a classic example of a transfer that should be seen less as a farewell and more as a deliberate stage in his development. Whether Sacha Boey will play a bigger role at Säbener Straße again after his return or whether new paths will open up will only become clear after the summer. What is clear, however, is that for the moment, the Frenchman has been given the stage he has rarely had in Munich recently.
