Manchester United have been ruthless this season, selling academy players whom they do not believe will have a future at the club.

There have been the usual loan moves for the likes of Dan Gore, Jayce Fitzgerald, and Jacob Devaney.

Nonetheless, players such as James Scanlon and Habeeb Ogunneye have been sold, with both going to Arsenal.

Radek Vitek, Toby Collyer, Ethan Ennis, Ethan Williams, and Tyler Fredricson have all departed the club on a permanent basis this season.

Another player who has departed the club is Australian defender James Overy.

The defender joined the club in 2024 after leaving Perth Glory.

He accepted a scholarship deal and was brought in on a more permanent basis later that summer.

Overy represented Scotland at youth level but has started playing for Australia under-23s this year.

Nonetheless, this summer it has been reported that Overy would be continuing his professional career away from Carrington.

He was linked with a move back to Australia, and Glasgow Rangers were also credited with an interest.

Later reports confirmed that he was on the cusp of signing in Australia, and Ben Jacobs has confirmed this morning that he will be signing for a new club.

Jacobs posted on X, “James Overy has left Manchester United Academy to join Sydney FC in a permanent move. Deal now complete.”

Overy played 26 times for the Manchester United youth team, making three assists.

He also logged 1,444 minutes in all competitions.

The 18-year-old will now be hoping for more first-team opportunities back in his native Australia.
