Duncan Watmore retires at 32 to take PEAK4 leadership role | OneFootball

Duncan Watmore, 32, has retired from professional football and will join PEAK4 as Head of Elite Performance & Business Development.

According to Sunderland Echo, he was a free agent after leaving Rotherham United and, despite interest from several clubs, has chosen to pursue a new career. He also holds a first-class and a master’s degree in business.

The forward made a major impact at Sunderland after arriving from Altrincham, contributing to a successful survival push under Sam Allardyce. His momentum was curtailed by two ACL injuries, and he left at the end of the 2019/20 season.

Watmore rebuilt impressively, becoming a regular at Middlesbrough and Millwall in the years that followed.

He said the decision came after considerable reflection and thanked every club and staff member who had supported him, as well as his team-mates, supporters and family. He added that setbacks shaped his resilience and outlook.

Watmore expressed enthusiasm for PEAK4’s aim of applying elite sporting principles to business, leadership and workforce wellbeing. He finishes his career with more than 50 goals from over 300 appearances.
