According to LeicesterMercury.co.uk, Sean Dyche has been sacked by Nottingham Forest at the City Ground, with Leicester’s neighbours now seeking a fourth Premier League manager of the season. Within hours, bookmakers installed Dyche as third favourite to take over at the King Power Stadium, behind Ralph Hasenhuttl and Gary Rowett.
Dyche has been linked with City several times over the past decade and he is a friend of director of football Jon Rudkin. Recent appointments have tended to favour possession-first coaches over the pragmatic style Dyche is associated with.
City’s increasingly desperate situation and the risk of relegation to League One could shift their criteria. Even so, it would be a surprise if Dyche chose an immediate return, particularly for a side near the bottom of the Championship.
Dyche’s Forest record reads 10 wins, six draws and nine defeats in all competitions. City are not expected to have a new head coach in place for Saturday’s FA Cup tie at Southampton, with interim Andy King set to handle Thursday’s pre-match press duties.
The trip to St Mary’s will be King’s fourth game, after three defeats. Leicester are winless in six, their last victory coming at Cheltenham in the FA Cup third round.
While they face the Saints, City could slip into the Championship relegation zone, dropping to 22nd if Blackburn take at least a point at QPR.
Rovers remain without a manager. They had appeared to target Rowett, though their focus now seems to be on Michael O’Neill.
