Claudio Echeverri is set to finalise a loan move to Benfica from Manchester City, with an option to buy included.

A Bola reports he landed on Tuesday night from Manchester and will undergo medical examinations before an official presentation, with Benfica keen to wrap up paperwork before submitting their UEFA Europa League squad list.

He said he consulted City team-mates Rúben Dias and Bernardo Silva, both former Benfica players, and also spoke with manager Marco Silva before accepting the move. He expressed delight, described Benfica as the biggest club in Portugal, and hopes to emulate compatriots while helping win titles.

He signed a four-and-a-half-year deal with Manchester City in January 2024, then took temporary spells at Bayer Leverkusen and Girona.

Nicknamed El Diablito, he is expected to add creativity in Marco Silva's tactical setup, primarily in the number 10 role recently occupied by Heorhiy Sudakov.

He broke through at the 2023 South American U-17 Championship as joint top scorer with five goals and three assists, then hit a hat-trick in Argentina's 3-0 FIFA U-17 World Cup quarter-final win over Brazil in Indonesia. The Lisbon move offers a platform to target regular minutes in Europe.
