Claudio Echeverri is close to joining Benfica on loan for 2026/27. According to Glorioso 1904, the 20-year-old has reached agreement on personal terms and would sign until 2031 if a deal with Manchester City is completed.

Benfica’s plan is understood to involve a season-long loan with an option to buy, followed by a four-year contract. The arrangement would bring the Argentine to the club while leaving City with room to decide on his future.

Benfica’s interest dates back to 2023, when he was still at River Plate. The club walked away as the numbers were considered too high, and City later paid €18.5 million for the player developed at the Argentine side.

Three years on, Benfica have returned and are seeking to capitalise on his situation at the English champions. They face competition from Betis and Sheffield United, who are also monitoring the Argentina international.

Echeverri is not in Enzo Maresca’s plans for the new season and previously failed to convince Pep Guardiola during his time at City. The intention at the club is to loan him out again in 2026/27.
