Ecuador and Jamaica will both be looking to get off the mark at the Copa America when they go head-to-head in Las Vegas, Nevada on Wednesday night (kick-off 11pm UK time).

The Ecuadorians head to Allegiant Stadium on the back of a disappointing 2-1 defeat against Venezuela, especially having led 1-0 at the break at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California.

As for Jamaica, they were wasteful in front of goal against Mexico and ended up losing 1-0 at NRG Stadium in Houston, Texas.

Two teams heading to the bright lights of Vegas, it’s all to play for at the home of the Las Vegas Raiders as Ecuador and Jamaica lock horns.

Ecuador must show response

With Brighton star Jeremy Sarmiento opening the scoring, Ecuador boss Felix Sanchez will be disappointed his side failed to get the job done against Venezuela in their Copa America opener in Group B.

The red card issued by VAR was certainly a turning point, with Ecuador skipper Enner Valencia given his marching orders.

There will certainly be positives for Sanchez to take out of the encounter, which was Ecuador’s first defeat in three games after back-to-back wins over Bolivia and Honduras.

It was the first time Ecuador had lost a game after leading at the break since October 2021 but the sending-off for Valencia had a large part to play in that outcome.

Sanchez will be preaching discipline from his players in the build-up to the game, in what really is a must-win encounter at Allegiant Stadium for both teams.

More needed from Jamaica

Jamaica have remarkably never won a game at a Copa America and their wait for that maiden victory was extended after a 1-0 defeat to Mexico last week.

West Ham United’s Michail Antonio thought he’d bagged the crucial opener for the Reggae Boyz but his headed effort was ruled out for offside by VAR.

A fine volley from Gerardo Arteaga then proved to be decisive and condemned Jamaica to yet another defeat in this competition.

Jamaica’s record at the Copa America now stands at seven games played, no win and no goals, which does not bode well ahead of Wednesday night’s clash with Ecuador.

Ecuador v Jamaica team news

La Tricolor will be without skipper and talisman Valencia after his sending-off last time out against Venezuela.

Goalscorer Sarmiento and Kendry Paez must be careful as another yellow card for either of them would see them miss out on the final game in the group against Mexico.

As for Jamaica, skipper Andre Blake remains injured, so Jahmali Waite is set to start as goalkeeper for this one.

Damion Lowe has had his recent injury issues, but he was able to come off the bench to feature for the Reggae Boyz against Mexico.

Lowe came through his minutes unscathed and is likely to feature in some capacity on Wednesday.
