Edmundo, Sérgio and Luxemburgo among ex-Palmeiras candidates in 2026 elections

Brazil votes on Sunday in the 2026 elections, and ex-Palmeiras names feature on the ballot. According to Nosso Palestra, they include Edmundo, Sérgio, Vanderlei Luxemburgo and Cléo Hickmann.
Edmundo, the former Palmeiras and Brazil striker, is running for federal deputy. He stands in Rio de Janeiro for PSDB, number 4510, having previously had two spells at Palmeiras and played for Vasco, Flamengo and Fluminense.
Goleiro Sérgio, a 1999 Libertadores winner with Palmeiras, is a candidate for state deputy in São Paulo for Solidariedade. The former goalkeeper had two stints with the club, from 1989 to 1995 then 1999 to 2006.
Vanderlei Luxemburgo, better known for a storied coaching career after his time as a player, managed Palmeiras across different periods. In 2026 he contests an election for the first time, standing for the Senate in Tocantins for Podemos, number 200.
Cléo Hickmann, an attacking midfielder for Palmeiras in 1983 and 1984, made 56 appearances and scored 13 goals. He is running for federal deputy in Rio Grande do Sul for PDT.
