Sport Bild reports that Eintracht Frankfurt are hopeful of finalizing the purchase of Club Brugge midfielder Raphael Onyedika after submitting an improved bid. In an effort to counter an attempt to hijack the deal by Saudi Arabia’s Al Ittihad, Eintracht have upped their offer to around €9m. It’s worth noting that this figure lies both below the Belgian outfit’s valuation of their player and what they originally paid for him.
Frankfurt’s pursuit of Raphael Onyedika has assumed greater importance following the €13m signing of Noël Aséko. The German U21 international supplies dynamism, intensity, and forward momentum. The 20-year-old still requires the right midfield partner alongside him.
Markus Krösche and the SGE administrative team seem determined to meet this need in the summer transfer market. Ellyes Skhiri (31) is among those the club no longer plans with and Hugo Larsson (22) is being actively shopped to Premier League clubs.
Onyedika would provide the more physical and disciplined defensive presence behind Aséko. Such balance is especially important after die Adler conceded 86 goals across the Bundesliga and Champions League last season.
