Elanga and Wissa fire Newcastle to victory at Tottenham | OneFootball

Newcastle United claimed their first Premier League victory of the season with a 2-0 win over Tottenham, leaving Spurs without a point or a goal after two matches.

Tottenham started brightly and created the better chances early on, with Mathys Tel forcing a save from Lukas Hornicek before Lewis Hall produced an excellent block to deny Pedro Porro.

Omar Marmoush, making his Tottenham debut, also went close after being picked out by Andy Robertson, but the hosts could not find a breakthrough before half-time.

Spurs continued to apply pressure after the restart, although Newcastle gradually began to pose more of a threat. Anthony Elanga eventually opened the scoring just after the hour mark, finishing off a move started by debutant Nico González, whose excellent cross-field pass found Amar Dedic before Elanga curled home off the post.

Newcastle then doubled their advantage 10 minutes later. Nick Woltemade headed a corner into the danger area and Yoane Wissa produced an acrobatic finish to beat Antonín Kinský.

Tottenham pushed for a response but Newcastle held firm to secure Matthias Jaissle’s first Premier League win. The defeat leaves Spurs bottom of the table, while Newcastle move into the top four.
