In recent years, the Scottish Cup has been an important trophy for the Celtic FC Women’s squad.

As current holders and having won the competition over the past two season, this tournament has marked the progress of the Hoops as they continue to grow from strength to strength.

And Elena Sadiku will be hoping that the Scottish Cup can continue to have that effect on her squad as they gear up for this weekend’s quarter-final tie against Montrose.

In fact, this competition has already been part of a landmark moment for the Swedish Head Coach, having picked up her first win as Celtic boss against Hamilton Accies last month.

Following on from an extremely positive few weeks, which included a comprehensive victory over Partick Thistle last week, Sadiku is hopeful that the players can build upon performances like that.

Speaking to Celtic TV ahead of this weekend’s match, she is taking plenty of positives from the win over the Jags, and praised her entire squad for their part to play in the Ghirls’ recent progress

She said: “I think coming from that game, it give us a big confidence of what we can do because Partick Thistle are a good team.

“But we managed to dominate that game in every way. So I think it just shows what potential this group has, what we can do and achieve.

‘So it was a good boost to have going into this week.’

“Like I said after the game, it was also very pleasing that we scored from open play and that is something that we have been working a lot on.

“Of course, we are strong in set pieces and that something we are going to continue to have. But we want to be an attacking team that can score a lot of goals from open play.

“The reason why we are progressing as a team is because it’s not only about the starting 11 that are doing well, it comes from us doing very well in training too as a squad.

“It’s something that we just keep on building upon, and hopefully we are going to do that again on Sunday.”

This Sunday, the Celts make the trip up north to take on Montrose in the last eight of the Scottish Cup, with a place in the semi-finals up for grabs.

As holders of the competition, the Hoops will be eyeing up another spot in the semi-finals at Hampden Park, and Sadiku insists that her side are raring to go ahead of the visit to Links Park.

“For us, it mean’s everything to come into the games prepared,” she said. “It doesn’t matter who the opponent is, we are always going to have the same aim.

“That is to perform as good as we can, so that we can win the games and it doesn’t change with the opponents or the competition. It’s always the same focus.

'Everybody is very excited for this game, and we know that for Montrose, it is going to be that they will give everything they have.'

“We are going to be ready for that. We have just got to focus on what we are good at, and try to execute the game.”
