On Saturday evening he posted an emotional farewell to supporters, reflecting on three years at the club, the day at Wembley and Sunderland’s return to the Premier League. He thanked chairman Kyril Louis-Dreyfus, team-mates and staff, and said the fans’ nickname for him would stay with him.

Upon arrival in France, he expressed delight at joining a big club and described himself as a complete forward who likes to run in behind, dribble and take on defenders. He is eager to play at Roazhon Park, link up with new team-mates and views Ligue 1 as underrated.

Rennes rate his pace and ability to stretch defences, and see him as capable of operating both out wide and through the middle. They also emphasise his experience across several leagues, his exemplary mentality and their belief that he will settle quickly.

The club noted strong competition for his signature and his determination to join. They are proud to have secured the 21-year-old, have welcomed him and his family, and hope for a smooth integration so he can bring his qualities to the team.
