Nottingham Forest’s Elliot Anderson has received support from Newcastle United and England following the death of his mother. Forest confirmed the England international would miss Thursday’s Europa League quarter-final second leg against FC Porto at the City Ground.

The club issued a statement before the match confirming Anderson was unavailable after the passing of his mother, Helen, and offering its deepest condolences to his family.

Newcastle replied on X to convey sorrow at the news and to send love and support to Anderson and his family.

The England national team also posted on X, sending love and support to Anderson and his family at an incredibly difficult time.

Anderson remains a favourite at his boyhood club, having come through Newcastle’s ranks before leaving to join Forest almost two years ago.
