However, Wolves should have other strikers on their radar as they look to seal an immediate return to the top flight following a dismal campaign.

Rob Edwards' men finished bottom of the Premier League, and haven't plied their trade in the Championship since 2018, when they won the title under Nuno Espirito Santo.

An extended stay in the second tier would be damaging for a side who finished in the top half of the top flight as recently as 2022.

Meanwhile, Football League World have taken a look at three Simms alternatives who should be on the Molineux club's radar ahead of next season.

Zan Vipotnik

Wolves have spent the last eight seasons in the Premier League, but adding tried-and-tested Championship quality to their ranks could help them climb out of the second tier at the first time of asking.

Championship nous is certainly a quality that Swansea City's Zan Vipotnik has in abundance, having finished the season as the league's top goalscorer.

The 24-year-old produced an impressive return of 23 goals and three assists in 44 second-tier appearances, notching a further two goals in four EFL Cup outings.

Vipotnik ended the 2025/26 season in prolific form, scoring six goals in his last seven Championship games.

He will want to continue leading the line regularly next term, while Wolves boast greater promotion credentials than his current club, Swansea.

Acquiring Viptonik would allow Edwards to rotate between the Slovenia international and fellow hotshot Adam Armstrong, helping his side adjust from a 38-game Premier League season to a 46-game Championship campaign.

Furthermore, Armstrong and Vipotnik could effectively combine, especially given the fact that the former Southampton man can operate on the wing.

Bamba Dieng

Vipotnik could be a great buy for Wolves, but Edwards' men should also have top-flight strikers on their wish list as they look to seal an immediate Premier League return.

Lorient's Bamba Dieng has enjoyed an impressive season in Ligue 1, notching 10 goals and one assist in 22 top-flight appearances, while he scored a further five goals in just three Coupe de France outings.

One of the 26-year-old's best performances of the season came when he scored a brace in a 2-2 draw with Auxerre on 1 March, and his last goal arrived when his side hammered Metz 4-0 in their penultimate game of the campaign.

Dieng has been named in Senegal's World Cup squad, meaning he will have a chance to impress against France in a group stage clash on 16 June.

His contract with Lorient expires this month, meaning that Wolves, or any other potential suitors, will be able to land his services on a free transfer.

Dieng and Senegal may fancy their chances of reaching the World Cup knockout stages, as they play Norway and Iraq following their aforementioned meeting with France.

Kaj Sierhuis

Another potential free transfer Edwards and Wolves should be keen on that summer is a swoop for Fortuna Sittard ace Kaj Sierhuis, who has scored 13 goals in 32 appearances across all competitions this term, including 12 strikes in 30 Dutch top-flight outings.

His contract expires this month.

The 28-year-old also proved his goalscoring credentials in the 2023/24 season, notching 15 goals and three assists in 35 appearances across all competitions, before enduring an injury-stricken 2024/25 campaign.

Sierhuis has played in both the Netherlands and France, having represented Reims from 2020-2023, following his stints with Ajax and Groningen.

The striker may now be keen on a move to England, especially for a club who have aspirations of returning to the Premier League at the earliest possible opportunity.

Fortuna Sittard have a good track record in recent seasons for developing talents that have gone on to excel in the Championship, as Millwall signed Zian Flemming from the Eredivisie outfit in 2022.
