FLW's Watford fan pundit has given his verdict on the way the club is currently being run

Watford are preparing for their fifth consecutive Championship campaign under new head coach Alessio Dionisi.

The Italian was appointed in the summer, and he will be looking to break the streak of short managerial stints at Vicarage Road.

The Hornets finished 16th in the table last season, 16 points adrift of the play-off places and 10 clear of the relegation zone.

The Pozzo family have overseen seven signings this summer, but five of those have been incomings from their other club Udinese in Serie A.

Sam Walker and Federico Ravaglia are the only non-Udinese additions to the squad so far this summer, with only a few weeks remaining in the transfer market.

Watford will be aiming to climb the Championship table this season, but have been tipped by many to struggle for consistent results.

When asked what the biggest change he’d make to the way the club is run, FLW’s Watford fan pundit Justin Beattie claimed he’d change who is running the club entirely.

He believes that the owners have to go, as they have wore out their welcome considerably over the last four or five years, and that they don’t have the best interests of the team at heart.

“I think the biggest change I’d make to the way Watford’s run is the owners,” Beattie told Football League World.

“I think they’ve exceeded their welcome a little bit now, it’s getting to the point where we’re not seeing the right players come in.

“The hiring and firing of managers is just embarrassing.

“This transfer window so far, all we seem to have done is raid the lost property department of Udinese.

“It’s not what we want and it’s now what we need.

“We need Championship proven players to come in and form the spine of a challenging teams.

“We’re nowhere near that.

“I think the biggest change I would make to the way the club is run is to actually change the people that are running it.”

Watford owners don’t have the club’s interest at heart

And when asked if he thinks the owners know what the fans want, Beattie claimed that they do not, highlighting the lack of progress made in recent years, and the lack of exciting signings for the first team squad.

“I don't think the owners of Watford truly understand what the fans want, and it’s been that way for four or maybe five seasons,” he continued.

“We’re treading water, we’re not progressing.

“Most of the pundits seem to have us lower table, or potentially in the relegation places, and that is probably based on the chaos of the management changes, and the wrong players coming in at the wrong time.

“We haven’t had any signings to excite the fans in quite a long time now.

“We do have Othmane Maamma, who is probably one of the best players in the Championship.

“But if you haven’t got a robust and Championship-hungry team surrounding him, he’s always going to be a bit of a show pony, and we’re never going to build on anything.

“So, I think in their heart they know what we want, but they’re never going to give it to us.

“It’s very frustrating and patience is very, very thin among the fan base with the owners now.”

Maamma joined Watford last summer from French side Montpellier following their relegation from Ligue 1.

The forward contributed four goals and one assist from 25 appearances in the Championship, as the Hornets finished 16th in the table.

The Morocco international is likely to be a key figure in the side under Dionisi this season, and will be relied on to contribute significantly in attack.

Along with the signings of Ravaglia and Walker, Watford have added Jordan Zemura on loan from Udinese.

The other four players to sign from the Serie A side include Martin Payero, Luca Kjerrumgaard, Iker Bravo and Omar Traoré.

Dionisi has been tasked with bringing the Hornets back to a competitive level this season, but he is the fourth person to have overseen games for the club this calendar year.

Javi Gracia, Charlie Daniels and Ed Still were all in charge for a period, with Daniels given an interim role.

Watford fans have lost patience in the Pozzo family

The Pozzo family have overseen a lot of chaotic decisions at Watford, and the managerial carousel has led to a lot of public embarrassment.

It’s no surprise that fans are now losing patience in their ownership, as there is no sense of plan or direction forward for improving the club.

The trading with Udinese has always existed under the Pozzos, but it has gained a level of intensity that doesn’t reflect well on their ownership, and supporters have every reason to be concerned.

If Watford aren’t careful, they could easily find themselves dragged into a relegation battle this season.
