Club ‘In Talks’ To Snap Up Watford Defender | OneFootball

Greek outfit Aris Salonika are ‘in talks’ with Championship side Watford to sign Hornets full-back Jeremy Petris.

Last summer, Watford paid around €1.5m to €2m to Belgian side Charleroi for the Frenchman, to strengthen their defensive options.

The experienced and versatile full-back started his youth career with Paris FC, but never played a senior game for them and headed to Italy to kick off his senior career.

The journeyman defender played in Italy, Bulgaria and Belgium before moving to England last year on a four-year deal.

The 28-year-old can play anywhere on the right-hand side and is well capable of filling in as a left-back when needed.

Petris played 18 games in his first season at Vicarage Road, playing a sporadic role for Watford as they fell short of their promotion ambitions.

However, he could be out of the Championship side after only one year, as Aris Salonika are ‘in talks’ with Watford for Petris, according to Greek journalist George Tsarouchas.

The Greek club are keen on signing him on a permanent deal, but also believe there could be an option to loan him from the Hornets.

Petris’ deal runs until the summer of 2029 at Watford, who appear open to sanctioning his departure before the transfer window shuts down.

Watford have signed a host of players already, and a majority of them arrived from Udinese; the only exception is custodian Federico Ravaglia, who arrived from Bologna.

They are set to sell Australian winger Nestory Irankunda to Portuguese giants Sporting Lisbon, who are paying a sizable £15.5m for him; midfielder Imran Louza has European clubs keen on him.

Further departures could be on the cards in the coming weeks, including Petris.

Whether the Hornets will be able to make a profit in the full-back’s potential sale in the coming days and weeks remains to be seen.

The Hornets kicked off their new season this Saturday, as they faced Crawley Town in the EFL Cup, winning the tie 1-0 at home.
