Greek club Aris Salonika are ‘really close’ to an agreement with Championship side Watford for Jeremy Petris.

Watford signed the Frenchman from Belgian side Charleroi last summer for a fee in the region of €1.5m to €2m, bringing him in to add depth to their defence.

The versatile and experienced full-back came through the youth ranks at Paris FC but left without making a senior appearance, moving to Italy to begin his professional career.

The Frenchman spent time in Italy, Bulgaria and Belgium before making the switch to England last year, where he signed a four-year contract.

The 28-year-old offers plenty of versatility across the defence, capable of operating anywhere on the right and deputising at left-back when required, making him an attractive prospect in the transfer market.

It was recently suggested that Aris Salonika were ‘in talks’ with the Hornets to sign the full-back.

According to Greek journalist George Tsarouchas, Aris Salonika are now ‘really close’ to an agreement with Watford for Petris.

It has been suggested that both parties are working to finalise a deal worth close to €800,000.

Watford have already made several signings, with most arriving from Udinese, while goalkeeper Federico Ravaglia is the only exception after joining from Bologna.

It remains to be seen when Watford are able to resolve the transfer of Petris, but the switch is advanced and reaching the paperwork stage.

Meanwhile, the Hornets stars are also subject to transfer market interest, with Como joining the race for midfielder Imran Louza, complicating the pursuit for Crystal Palace.
