Emergency change in goal: Experienced goalkeeper joins Berkane as Mohamedi ruled out before Pyramids trip
RS Berkane signed experienced goalkeeper Anas Zniti until the end of the season to replace injured Munir Mohamedi.
Moroccan club RS Berkane completed the urgent signing of veteran goalkeeper Anas Zniti as the “Orange” side look to cover for the absence of injured international stopper Munir Mohamedi.
The deal runs until the end of the current season and comes after Mohamedi suffered serious injury that will keep him out for extended period.
Berkane’s board moved quickly to bring in experienced replacement with strong African competition knowledge.
Zniti has already caught attention in recent training sessions showing good sharpness & readiness as he joins the squad at important stage of the campaign.
RS Berkane face major continental challenge on Sunday when they travel to Egypt to play Pyramids FC in matchday 4 of the CAF Champions League group stage.
The match is crucial for both teams as Berkane are aiming to return from Cairo with positive result that could help them take full control of Group A and move closer to securing place in the knockout rounds.
With the pressure high, Berkane expected to rely on Zniti’s leadership and experience especially against Egyptian opposition.
Zniti’s strong early performances in training suggest he could be trusted as the starting goalkeeper against Pyramids. Known for his calm presence and long history in African football, the experienced keeper is seen as a valuable addition for such a demanding away fixture.
His arrival is also expected to boost Berkane’s defensive line, giving the team a confident voice from the back during difficult trip.
RS Berkane currently sit top of Group A with seven point, level with Pyramids but ahead on goal difference.
Nigerian side Rivers United are third with just one point making the battle for qualification intense.
