Chelsea have completed the signing of Argentina goalkeeper Emiliano Martínez from Aston Villa, with the World Cup winner joining the Blues on a three-year contract.

The 33-year-old arrives at Stamford Bridge after six successful seasons at Villa Park, where he established himself as one of the Premier League's top goalkeepers and helped the club lift the Europa League last season.

Martinez leaves Villa after making 256 appearances and playing a pivotal role under Unai Emery. The Midlands club had already signed Japan international Zion Suzuki earlier this summer, paving the way for Martinez's departure after a proposed move to Juventus failed to materialise.

Chelsea moved for the experienced goalkeeper following concerns over Robert Sanchez's performances, with Martinez expected to compete immediately for the number one shirt under Xabi Alonso.

The Argentine enjoyed one of the most successful periods of his career at Villa, winning the 2022 World Cup with Argentina and finishing runner-up at the 2026 tournament. He has also lifted two Copa América titles with his country.

Martinez becomes Chelsea's latest summer signing as the club continues to strengthen ahead of the new Premier League campaign.
