We take a look at some free agents that Pompey should be looking to add to their ranks to bolster their squad
The transfer window may have shut, but clubs are still able to add to their squad from the free agent market, and there's still plenty of talent out there without a club.
Pompey made a number of signings as John Mousinho looked to bolster his squad following their promotion from League One, and have utilised the free agent market already this summer, signing both Andre Dozell and Matt Ritchie after being released by QPR and Newcastle United respectively.
With the season now in full flow and the transfer window shut, the plethora of free agents will be desperate for a contract somewhere, and could well be willing to accept reduced terms in a bid to find a club, meaning there are potential bargains out there for Pompey.
A quick look at the PFA free agents squad which has been training together and playing friendlies against English clubs shows the amount of talent out there currently without a club, and it's something Mousinho could well be keeping tabs on, particularly if Pompey suffer injuries.
So, with that in mind, here are two free agents Portsmouth should be looking to sign.
Pompey have a big squad, with 31 first-team players as per Transfermarkt, and they have depth in most positions, but right-back could be an area where reinforcements would be needed if either Jordan Williams or Zak Swanson suffered an injury, and Christie would be the perfect signing.
Most recently at Hull City, the 31-year-old was a regular starter for the Tigers before suffering a hamstring injury, and he struggled to get back into Liam Rosenior's squad afterwards, but he still has plenty to offer at this level.
The 30-cap Republic of Ireland international has 320 Championship appearances to his name, and it's a surprise to see a player of his calibre still without a club given his experience and performances over the years.
At 31, Christie isn't particularly old either, and you could argue that he'd be an upgrade on Pompey's current options at right-back.
Pompey have recruited well, and Mousinho has ensured they have depth in every position, but should anything happen to Swanson or Williams, the Pompey boss should be on the phone to Christie straight away.
A familiar face to Championship fans, Emiliano Marcondes is a free agent after leaving Bournemouth on a free transfer, and could be a shrewd addition for Pompey.
Pompey have a plethora of options in midfield, but don't have an out-and-out attacking midfielder, and Marcondes would help to fill that void.
The ex-Denmark youth international is incredibly versatile, and has two Championship promotions and a wealth of experience in the second tier under his belt thanks to his spells with Brentford and Bournemouth.
Marcondes scored the Bees' second goal to win the 2021 Championship play-off final against Swansea, and subsequently signed for Bournemouth on a three-year deal that summer, but spent time on loan with the likes of Hibernian and Nordsjælland during his time on the South Coast.
The 29-year-old is now on the lookout for a new club, and Portsmouth could well be a good move for him as he looks to find a new permanent home after his time at Bournemouth, and would offer Mousinho's side a wealth of Championship experience and quality.
