England international Ivan Toney has been charged with assault following an alleged incident at a Soho nightclub in December.

The Metropolitan Police said on Friday the 30-year-old has been charged and is due at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on September 24. It is alleged to have occurred at a Wardour Street venue on December 6.

Toney featured for England at the World Cup over the summer and plays his club football for Al Ahli in Saudi Arabia.

He came through Northampton Town, then Newcastle United and Peterborough United. He is best known for four years at Brentford, where he top scored in the Championship as they won promotion via the play-offs.

He scored 72 goals in 141 Brentford appearances before moving to Saudi Arabia in 2024. The new Saudi Pro League campaign begins on August 13, while England return during the season’s first international break from September 21.
