Enzo Maresca says that Joao Pedro, Enzo Fernandez and Moises Caicedo have not been taking part in training every day after their return from injury.
Chelsea conceded an injury time winner from Chemsdine Talbi to lose 2-1 at Stamford Bridge against Sunderland.
All three of Pedro, Caicedo and Fernandez started the loss to the Black Cats at Stamford Bridge, but Maresca said that they are all nursing injuries.
Pedro has not scored for Chelsea since August and has been suffering with a groin issue this season. Both Fernandez and Caicedo did not start Chelsea’s 3-0 win over Nottingham Forest last weekend.
“Joao is not training every day because he’s managing a little bit himself from the injury problem,” Maresca said.
“Moises Caicedo is exactly the same, Enzo is exactly the same. We have four or five players that, unfortunately, because of some problems, they cannot work every day.
“They try to make the effort to play the game. So, Joã=ao, in some games, has been better, today, he struggled a little bit, however, today, I think, overall, all the players struggled. So, it’s not just about Joao.”
When Maresca reflected on the loss post-match he admitted that his side were not good enough throughout.
“We are always looking for a reason why, when something is not working well,” he said. “But, again, we always try to analyse game by game.I think the last defeat at home in the Premier League was Brighton.
That time we had a red card, that is much more difficult. And today, for sure, we can avoid that but it’s something that we probably need to play a lot better.
“I think we were not good enough. There was a lack of creativity. We didn’t create a lot, apart from the goal, probably.
“We need our players to perform 100%. And even with 1-0, we lost some duels, we lost some second balls and against this team, you need to win that.”
