A dramatic late strike from Chemsdine Talbi handed Sunderland a stunning 2-1 win over Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, sealing one of the shocks of the Premier League season so far.

The visitors showed real grit and composure to claim all three points, with Talbi’s composed finish in the 93rd minute completing a superb comeback for the newly promoted side.

It had all begun promisingly for the hosts, who hit the front after just four minutes. Alejandro Garnacho, making only his second start for the club, darted in from the left before firing a low effort through the legs of Robin Roefs to open his Blues account.

The Black Cats refused to be rattled and found their response midway through the first half. A long throw into the box caused chaos, and when Bertrand Traoré’s effort was blocked, Wilson Isidor was on hand to prod home from close range.

From there, Chelsea dominated possession but lacked a cutting edge. Enzo Fernández and Estevão both tested the goalkeeper, while Pedro Neto wasted a promising counter-attack. Despite their territorial control, the hosts couldn’t break through Sunderland’s compact back line.

And they were made to pay deep into stoppage time. Substitute Brian Brobbey held the ball up brilliantly on the edge of the box before teeing up Talbi, who swept a low shot past Robert Sánchez to spark wild celebrations in the away end.

The result lifts Régis Le Bris’ impressive Sunderland side into second place in the table - a remarkable position for a team that only came up this season. Chelsea, meanwhile, slip to seventh, their four-game winning run abruptly halted and questions once again being asked about their consistency.
