Enzo Maresca threatens to drop Estevao if he does this in light-hearted press conference jab

Burnley on Saturday was a classic trap game. With games against Barcelona and Arsenal to come this week, it was a classic moment where a team might take their eye off the ball and slip up.

But Chelsea got the job done with a 2-0 win, and after the game Enzo Maresca was asked if that gave his group confidence for the games to come:

“Yeah, we are confident. We are confident, we are doing well. Today we could have done many, many things better, for sure, no doubt, but at the end it was important to win the game. But we are confident and we are ready to prepare Tuesday and Sunday.”

A little bit of rotation for Saturday’s game means the likes of Moises Caicedo will go into that game fully fresh – that gives us more confidence than anything else.

Maresca’s little Estevao joke

Maresca also had time for a little joke about Estevao. The winger was seen warming up and being given instructions, but ended up not being needed after his team scored the second.

Asked whether the winger was disappointed to not get more minutes, Maresca replied:

“I don’t think so. If he’s disappointed, he’s not playing Tuesday [laughs]. No, no, he was okay, he was okay.”

We suspect we will see him on Tuesday, but not as a starter.

After Saturday’s win over Burnley, Enzo Maresca was asked about Marc Cucurella’s contribution to the win, and he praised the defender’s ability to get into the box and cause the opposition problems, as he did for his team’s opening goal.

Chelsea boss Maresca also defended his team’s attacking patterns when questioned about them, claiming he was happy to spread the goals around rather than worrying about his strikers scoring.
