According to Le Progres, Eric Roy died on Wednesday of cancer aged 58.
The Nice-born player wore Lyon’s colours 128 times from 1993 to 1996, scoring 12 goals.
The loss adds to a grim run for OL, arriving one year to the day after Bernard Lacombe’s death, 35 days after Fleury Di Nallo, and nine days after Bryan Bergougnoux.
In December 2023 he said OL had meant a great deal to him, describing early-career unhappiness after he was forced to leave his formative club Nice, which he noted was the first team relegated for administrative reasons.
It was a club that marked him, one he never forgot and where he was widely appreciated.
